Bible Story Isaiah 58:5-11 True Worship Is this the repentance I want from you, your going through the motions of humbling yourselves? Of bowing your heads and wearing sackcloth and ashes? Will you call this a fast, a penance? Do you really think this will please the Lord?
Is this not the repentance I desire: to loose the bonds of injustice, to lighten the burden of those over whom you have power, to let the oppressed go free, to remove the yokes that keep people in bondage. Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless into your house; to give clothes to the naked, and not to hide yourself from your own kin who need help? Then your light shall break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall come quickly; the Lord shall go before you, the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. Then when you call, the Lord will answer; when you cry for help, the Lord will say, "Here I am!" If you remove the bondage of oppression from among you, if you stop pointing fingers and speaking evil, if you offer your food to the hungry and satisfy the needs of the afflicted, then your light shall rise in the darkness and the gloom around you shall be as bright as the noonday. The Lord will guide you continually, give you water when you are dry, and restore your strength. You shall be like a watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring.

God, you know what we need, and you know how to help us get from here to where you want us to be. Lead us and heal us, we pray. Amen.
