Bible Verse Colossians 3:15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since we are all members of one body, and are called to peace.

Bible Story John 21:15-17 Jesus Still Loves Peter Even though Peter Denied Jesus

The Bible tells us stories by eyewitnesses that after Jesus was crucified and buried, he appeared in risen form multiple times to hundreds of people. One of the resurrection appearances, as told in this passage, was to Peter, the disciple who, before Jesus was arrested and killed, had out of fear denied Jesus three times by saying he did not know Jesus. In this passage, the risen Jesus asks Peter three times if Peter loves him. Three times Peter says yes. And three times, Jesus tells Peter to feed and take care of Jesus' sheep.

Jesus still loves Peter and asks Peter to serve even though Peter had denied knowing Jesus! Jesus loves everyone no matter how many times we mess up. Others will know they are loved too when we do what we can to help them. Jesus is telling Peter, "I remember what you did, but I still love you, and I want you to be with me, and do work I need you to do."

We tend to avoid people we have wronged. But Jesus never avoids us no matter how much wrong we do. Jesus is always wanting to be our friend, always wanting to redeem us, always wanting to walk with us, always wanting to show us how we can use our time in meaningful and effective ways. Tell Jesus you want to follow him and you want to be his friend. Ask him what he wants you to do with your time. And then relax knowing he loves you and will guide you.
